The buttons, volume, and channel controls have very good tactile feedback and feel sturdy. The case looks as good as handhelds made by any of the Japanese manufacturers. The BF-888S was a little smaller than I envisioned but I am impressed on the fit/finish of this little transceiver.

The radio did not come with any programming software, I assume the manufacturer thought that you would use the free Open-Source application CHIRP. The BF-888S came in a smart looking box which included the instruction manual, rubber ducky antenna, belt clip, base charger with AC cord, and one battery pack. I am subscribed to the great Amazon Prime program so I get free two-day shipping on most items. Not bad at all.My Pofung branded BF-888s handheld transceiver arrived two days after purchase. Considering I paid $10 for the pair, I’m gonna say not bad. So I programmed my frequencies with ZT-V68, downloaded that info from my radio to the 888S program, then set language, squelch, and side key function with the 888S program, uploaded it to the radio, and it worked.īit of a nuisance, but it was kinda fun and engaging working out a solution for it at the same time.įrom one of the outbuildings at Denver International Airport, I managed to carry on a conversation through a repeater in Northglenn, for a straight line distance from my location to the repeater of 17.7 miles, with reception being reported as a little rough but fully legible. With the specific BF-888S program, I could program everything else, but it wouldn’t write frequencies, CTSS/DCS tones, etc. However, it defaults to Mandarin as the radio language, and a default squelch setting and no side key function. So, I found that I can manually type in any non-standard DCS tones on ZT-V68, and it’ll write them and the frequencies to the radio.

Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.
